Myths on Soybeans
Are Soybeans Bad?
Soybeans get a bad rep because they are associated with high estrogen and other components that could promote certain cancers, however, these issues are a bit exaggerated. Current research does not support these claims and the opposite could be said that soybeans may help prevent certain cancers.
The idea of too much estrogen reducing masculinity is farfetched as both males and females have and need some amount of testosterone and estrogen to properly function. Eating soybeans, even in large amounts, is not enough to completely disrupt the body’s normal functions of hormone production. There has not been enough research to prove that soybeans may adversely affect men’s sexual health in the long term as well.
Organic v. Processed
Other negative effects may not be caused directly by soybeans but by how they are processed. Commercially processed beans may be contaminated with natural toxins found in the processing itself and chemicals may be added to increase preservation and flavor.
Choosing organic over processed, fresh and/or dried beans over canned, can help avoid these issues. Choosing more natural forms of beans over their commercially processed counterparts also decreases the loss of nutrients lost in their processing production. Organic soybeans are more higher in nutrients and is a great source of protein.
Ways to Eat
Drying up fresh soybeans and grinding them into natural protein powder is a great way to add an easy source of protein to your diet. Soybeans themselves are so versatile in their use and many cultures use them in their daily diets so finding recipes to incorporate them into your favorite meals is quite easy.
You can blend them into milk, turn them into tofu, a great substitute or add on to your favorite soups, stews, and stir frys, adding a cup of soybeans cooking with your favorite grain is also a great way to add a punch of protein and nutrients to your diet.
