Brain Detox

Juggling work, family matters, relationships, and one’s overall health, both physically and mentally is quite a challenge. Being overworked or doing multiple overtime is more of a common practice than expected and some may willingly seek out this constant stress because of fear of boredom, bills to pay, financial securities, or simply because they enjoy their job. Regardless of the reasons, taking in too many responsibilities and tasks, and spending less time on proper rest or relaxation will take a toll on the body. All of this can cause strain on your mental health and you may experience “brain fog”.

What is “brain fog”?

Brain fog, in simple terms, is struggling to focus and complete tasks. It can range from minor mental strain such as being more forgetful or more serious with difficulties in concentrating and processing information to complete tasks. It is commonly caused by a lack of proper rest, being overly stressed, or physically fatigued. Such symptoms may fade quickly after a short nap or taking a short break, but more serious conditions need stronger tactics. Reducing working hours, taking full vacation days to relax, and spending time away from work or stressful conditions for an extended period of time are just to name a few.

Getting proper nutrition is also important in reducing and preventing brain fog. A lack of nutrition may make the body feel more sluggish and more easily susceptible to stressful situations, thereby leading to a build-up of stress and tension that can cause brain fog. Taking care of one’s physical and mental health is most important and is the best way to be productive and effective in one’s job.

If you ever find yourself in one of these “brain fog” moments, take the time to:

  • Breathe and relax

  • Stretch out your body

  • Go for a walk

  • Rest your eyes from electronics or bright lights

  • Spend time with your pet(s)

  • Spend time with your loved ones and friends

  • Listen to your favorite music

  • Drink something refreshing and relaxing like a cup of tea

  • Grab a snack, or an actual meal if you’ve missed it

Although exciting activities and sugary drinks are fun and equally enjoyable, these things may not help reduce brain fog. You should seek out more relaxing activities and calming foods or beverages while you are still experiencing brain fog. Stuff like energy drinks, sugary or concentrated coffees may not be recommended as these substances may make you more stressed or more susceptible to stressful stimuli. You can always go back to the more exciting things you enjoy after you have recovered and your body has had its proper rest and relaxation.

Brain fog itself is not a serious health problem, but constant experiences of brain fog can indicate other worsening health conditions and long-term chronic health conditions.

Stone International Wellness Center offers a specialty treatment called “brain detox” where we utilize modern modalities to stimulate the nerves on the head. This promotes blood flow and circulation of fluids throughout the head. This helps reduce tension build-up caused by stress and can help reduce symptoms of brain fog. Scalp stimulation treatment is also recommended and can help stimulate hair growth in treated areas. Contact us to learn more about our services and treatments.
